My name is Alexandra, and I am a 4th year student in the Chemical Engineering and Contemporary Materials program. During those four years, most days of which I spent at university, I saw and learned a lot – I witnessed how the laboratory lessons instantly ignited the whole group’s interest in chemistry (while the mood was kept high by the jokes and banter between colleagues and professors). Aside from the experimental lessons I also attended the lectures that helped me understand the science behind all the phenomena we observed in the lab.
Besides attending lectures and lab lessons, I do research work in the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering. Working in the lab helped me gain laboratory skills and allowed me to see how the theory I studied in the undergraduate program is applied in practice. My involvement in research has made me realize that everything I’m learning can be applied in real life –as a cosmetics lover, for example, I appreciate that I had the opportunity to participate in the preparation and characterization of hair conditioners 😊. Over the years, I have taken part in the student conferences that the faculty organizes, and in 2023 I went to my first international science conference in Naples, Italy!
So, if I had to sum up my experience with the Chemical Engineering and Contemporary Materials program in a few words, I would say that it broadened my horizons, it showed me that chemistry is a much wider world than I had ever imagined, it allowed me not only to learn, but also to have fun, and inspired me to strive to be better every day!
