Visit of manufacturing industries
The visit of manufacturing industries is included in the compulsory curriculum. It takes place during the summer semester of the third year of study.
This practical training includes a visit to several companies, not only within the city of Sofia but also throughout Bulgaria. Students visit various production sites for chemical materials (acids, bases, salts), metallurgical plants, pharmaceutical plants, companies producing various materials (for example – glass and plastic), as well as companies of the food and cosmetic industries.
Some of the annually visited companies include:
- Aurubis Bulgaria – a coal mining plant that also produces sulfuric acid. It is located near the town of Pirdop. Aurubis Bulgaria has been the largest company in Bulgaria for the last 3 years, with revenues totaling BGN 8.2 billion in 2023.
- Aroma – the largest company for the production of cosmetics in Bulgaria. Among the products manufactured and sold by the company are those under the brands: Zdrave, Chisto, Astera, Aroma Naturals, Parodont Active, Sensimo, and others.
- Teva България – an international company for the production of generic drugs and innovative biopharmaceutical products with factories in Dupnitsa and Troyan.
- Неохим АД – a company producing mineral fertilizers, as well as organic and inorganic chemical products.
- Integra Plastics – a company producing goods from recycled plastic.
The purpose of visiting manufacturing industries is to acquaint students with the technologies and processes used in these industries, as well as with the work that takes place in the chemical laboratories of these companies. Students have the opportunity to examine the production processes and ask questions directly to the people working there.
